Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Thomsen.

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

Likewise, with pleasure, I have always loved music since a young age and could not imagine doing anything else. I grew up in a tiny village in Scotland in a large musical family where music was always played in our house. I have very fond memories of playing duets with my father. We were always outside in nature climbing trees chasing butterflies, ice skating, playing fun games and searching for tadpoles with our fishing nets. I spent several summers by the sea in Jersey, also with great friends in the west coast and highlands. In the earlier years I was quietly working on my musical career through baby steps while doing other jobs and sending hundreds of Cds to music libraries advertising and film companies. I composed my first ‘weather composition’ when I was just 5 years old, always being in a dream world playing classical music or improvising. I was mirror writing as a child and the headteacher brought my mum into school to say ‘what will we do with Julia?’ – little to me and them not knowing in those days that I was dyslexic. In the later years of my music career, I met a wonderful friend and business adviser who helped me to set up my goals and how to reach them. She introduced me to Instagram and Twitter and the magical journey really began there where I ended up with a great team of talented people who have got me to where I am.

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

Yes, there have been quite a few challenges along the way the first thing was finding academic school work very difficult and thinking I was not very clever at the time. I worked very hard and somehow made it into university however chose a highly academic degree which was not suited to me at all. I was therefore not able to finish the course. I was also in a very unhealthy relationship at that time which was very hard, however it actually made me stronger and pushed me to where I am now. While working different jobs I then bought a digital Roland piano with a 16 track computer where I suddenly realised that composing was what I wanted to really do and had created prolific amounts of musical works from then on. For a long time, I also thought that you needed to be able to do everything by yourself, never asking for help and did not know about having a team of people which could have helped tremendously to reach my goals quicker – however here we are now! Family life is amazing and most important to me but has had its challenges along the way and has made me more inspired than ever to compose music.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

I create beautiful music soundtracks to help people across the globe with their well-being and mental health. It has been incredible to hear how the music is affecting them. One man had watched my Snowscape video and the music brought him to speak. Another beautiful lady in Florida, whose mother has Alzheimer’s, has told me how the music has been wonderful for her. It is also been used in NHS hospitals for MRI scans which can be very uncomfortable and scary for some people and the music can help to transport the patient away from the noise and feeling claustrophobic. The music is also ideal for sync into film, TV and adverts. In January 2020 I was signed up by the international music publisher and library Delimusic in London. I have a great team of people around me who can make things happen. The music is able to transport you to magical landscapes helping people to focus, relax, study and have personal serene moments. It also helps to enhance luxury brands, films and documentaries with unforgettable emotive themes – something which I think is missing in the business and music world and needs to come back.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

My motto is you need to go through troubling and testing times in order to grow and flourish like a golden flower. Patience is key to your success which will not just happen as you need to persevere all the way up the mountain and never give up. Failure brings you success. Beautiful things will happen and you will reach your golden destination. In the composing field, and so many other careers, you can find it difficult to switch off, so it is important to focus on something else like exercise or whatever it is you like doing. For me, the most important it is walking in nature being able to slow down and appreciating the little things around me. For cardio I workout on an indoor bike which has been a life saviour in lockdown. Having fun dancing, laughing and being silly! Also being able to balance family life with work is a struggle too for many people, but I think as long as the work is making you feel passionate and happy, then your kids will be happy too and everything will fall into place. If you have a dream that is making you think 24/7 about it, then you must go for it! Social life is a must as well as having supportive friends who push you to follow your dreams, and vice versa – pushing and encouraging them. Having a wonderful team around you is so important too. Remember you have magic superpowers within.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

A happy balance is success whether it is being a good mum, a great father , a good friend or a wonderful carer and following your passionate dreams, achieving the goals that you set out with or maybe even surpassing them as long as family and friends are always at the forefront. For me, if I can help people with my music it makes me so happy and that is success.

What’s next for you?

I have just released Paradise a new Piano Violin Album performed by the wonderful American violinist Calyssa Davidson, a selection of short tracks Spring influenced helping people to step into their own Paradise. I will be recording a full length live cinematic album with Macedonia Symphonic Orchestra, Covid permitting, and can’t wait to share it with the world.
