Today we’d like to introduce you to Al McFoster.

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

Well, I appreciate you having me. Thank you! My journey in the entertainment business started at a very young age. First, I was a singer and performer in the church I grew up in. I performed as a soloist in the choir and acted in the drama plays. I loved it! I believe it was my foundation. Plus, I’ve always had an extrovert and bright personality, so it was a seamless fit. From there I started performing everywhere from shoppings malls to small theatres. It wasn’t until I began in radio, did I really think that I could have a career in entertainment if I focused on it. I knew I had a very strong, unique presence which I used not only on radio but to host/MC events and become a DJ (deejay). Just an all-round entertainer! But I always knew I could find a medium that incorporated all my skills, but with both audio and visual aspects. Enter ACTING! I started off doing commercials, as most actors do, but then I eventually made my way into the creative and diverse realm of TV & Film. I love what I do! I enjoy telling stories through my interpretation of the characters I build, and play. I’ve had the privilege of acting in great TV/Film productions such as: Supernatural, Ginny & Georgia, Designated Survivor, Supergirl, The Twilight Zone and many more. I just look forward to challenging myself and doing more diverse roles in the near future. The future is bright!

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

Wow, great question! Well, I think I’ve only had a few specific challenges. Some I’m still going through. I mean, I guess originally it was pinpointing what exactly I wanted to focus on and excel at as a profession in entertainment. Because I’m that classic “Jack Of All Trades”, it was a challenge. So I sampled pretty much every aspect of the business, but settled with being an Actor first, and continue as a DJ/MC because it’s just second nature and something I enjoy doing. After that, the next challenge was putting together a good, solid team to help me in my acting journey (agent, manager, publicist etc.). It was difficult, and I’m always looking to build, but I believe I’m in a good place now. Lastly, is the challenge to actually get casted in various productions. This business is hard. It takes tough skin, which luckily I have. But to keep going takes perseverance. There’s a lot of competition, especially in the type of roles I want. My goal is to be solid and consistent in both dramatic and comedic roles, with characters that have a great landscape in their personalities. I love variety! It’s why I got into this business in the first place. Repetition is not me! So it’s finding and pushing for those roles that I can be proud of, now and 10 years down the road.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

When you work with me, either as an Actor or DJ, you can rest assured that you’re getting a professional that works hard and is possessed with great detail while doing the work. I love to put on an amazing show! I’m a very specific person, and I think that works great with producing the best outcome. I’m also a “people person”, so I love collaborating with creatives to make quality material that can stand the test of time. I believe with acting specifically; casting directors, producers, directors etc. will find that I can adapt very well and I’m very versatile in what I can do on screen. I’ve always made the best out of any situation. Ha! I sound like I’m in a job interview or something… Hilarious. But it’s true though. Book me!!!

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

I would definitely say, “stick to your vision”. There will be a lot, and I mean a lot of distractions. The major key is to stay focused on the goal. I’d also say, don’t be afraid to do what you NEED to do (legally of course), to get to that goal. If it means making a sacrifice that won’t hurt or delay the goal, do it. See, I just think a lot of people are not willing to give up certain things to reach their goals. So it slows them down or makes them not perform at their greatest potential. So I say, DETER THE DETERRENTS! Stay focused. But when you do get your success, share and help others. Pay it forward.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

For me, that’s simple. Success to me is, doing what you actually LOVE and being able to support yourself and/or your family by doing it. Then doing more of it. Much more! I believe true success should make you happy at all times. Not it being, something you have to do and don’t love or enjoy, just to live the “lifestyle” of a so-called successful person.

What’s next for you?

Well, I have some great projects coming out very soon. Most I can’t exactly talk about because of NDAs, but I can name a few. Up first, I make an appearance in the award-winning Hulu original series, The Handmaid’s Tale, alongside Elisabeth Moss. I absolutely loved working on that show! A great cast and crew, unique story, an all-round solid production. I play an authoritarian who’s “no nonsense” when it comes to the rules. Shortly after that, I join the cast in a recurring role in the amazing DC comics action series, Titans, for the third season which will be airing on HBO Max. I play a Gotham City crime boss named Rafelson Roberts, who wants to find a way to still get money and keep Batman from interfering with no obstacles in his way.
